I RASP sono stati progettati e realizzati per svolgere il programma di monitoraggio acustico previsto all'interno del progetto LIFE Del.Ta. - Delfini e Tartarughe protetti.
Esisteva l'esigenza di realizzare uno strumento che fosse in grado di raccogliere dati acustici per molti giorni, seguendo uno schema prestabilito. Il sistema doveva essere semplice da utilizzare, facile da collocare e recuperare, resistente, economico e utilizzabile fino a circa 500 metri di profondità.
È nato così il RASP.

Programmable underwater acoustic recorder
The concept :
a simple instrument, for underwater acoustic monitoring, with a good quality and a low price.
Suitable to monitor water volumes ranging from nets' proximity to hot-spots, Marine Protected Areas, straits or rivers, RASPs offer a simple instrument than can be deployed and recovered from a RIB (see our sample deployment video).
Based on two commercial recorders the first (m-audio microtack II, recording on compact flash memory) offers up to 48kHz bandwidth at 24 bits, and the second (customized acquisition board, recording on standard usb devices) offers 20kHz bandwidth at 16 bits / stereo. A custom control circuit has been designed and programmed to offer full programmability of the units.
