JunkTrack v.2.0 - How to operate

JunkTrack v.2.0: what is this device

The JunkTrack device is a GPS/LOCATION-BASED tracker prepared to have a long operational life (~2 years) on a single set of batteries.

It is assembled using a custom circuit sealed into a PET canister simulating a 500ml bottle (the standard in fre-floating litter in coastal areas).

The devices are registered on a map server devoted to follow the units analyzing their movements when free drifting under winds and currents.

How to setup and deploy the unit

All units (v.1.0 and v.2.0) are delivered already registered on the map server.
You should have received a link, a login and a password when ordering the units or just before the shipment.
While v.1.0 are already active and can be deployed with no further action on the canister (but please take a picture with active GPS or a position using a mapping app or our app – android only),
the v.2.0 units require are delivered with a magnet on the canister.

The magnet must be removed in order to turn the unit on, just before the deployment.

A detailed operational guide is here. Please follow the steps with care.
